Step-by-step

  1. Set both pulleys to chest height and grip the handles with your palms facing down and inward.
  2. Stand with your back to the machines, take a split stance with one foot forward, and lean slightly forward.
  3. Start with your elbows at about a 45-degree angle to your body.
  4. Press forward so the handles meet in front of your chest.
  5. Squeeze your chest for 1 second at full extension, then open your elbows back under control.
  6. Keep your torso stable; the pressing force should come from your chest, not your lower back.
