How to do Smith Machine Upright Row

Step-by-step

  1. Grip the Smith bar at thigh level, slightly narrower than shoulder width
  2. Rotate the bar off the rack and stand tall
  3. Drive your elbows up and out to pull the bar to chest level
  4. Hold for one second at the top
  5. Lower the bar under control

Coaching tip

Don't pull the bar above chest level; keep the elbows no higher than the shoulders to avoid impingement.
