How to do Barbell Bent-Over Row

Step-by-step

  1. Grip the bar shoulder-width apart with your palms facing you.
  2. Hinge forward at the hips until your torso is close to parallel with the floor (about 45 degrees).
  3. Keep your back flat, bend your knees slightly, and brace your core.
  4. Pull the bar toward your lower abdomen by drawing your elbows back.
  5. After squeezing your shoulder blades together, lower the bar back down under control.

Coaching tip

Bend your torso to near 45 degrees, pull the bar toward your belly, and squeeze your back muscles.
