Primary muscle: Calves

CalvesBeginnerBodyweightIsolation

Step-by-step

  1. Place the front half of your feet on the edge of a step or platform, letting your heels hang off.
  2. Take light support from a wall or railing with one hand for balance.
  3. Lower your heels below the level of the step to feel a stretch in your calves.
  4. Push through the balls of your feet to raise your heels to the highest point.
  5. Squeeze for 1-2 seconds at the top and lower under control over 2-3 seconds.

Coaching tip

Work on the edge of a step and lower your heels below ground level; a full range of motion is the key to calf development.
