How to do Barbell Seated Calf Raise

Step-by-step

  1. Sit on a bench with the balls of your feet on a plate or block
  2. Rest the padded bar on your thighs close to your knees
  3. Let your heels sink as low as possible
  4. Drive through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as high as you can
  5. Squeeze for one second at the top, then lower slowly into the stretch

Coaching tip

The seated position targets the soleus; wrap a towel or pad around the bar to protect your thighs.
